WITH the champions from two years ago, Oxford, making the trip to Slough senior batsman Gheyas Khan are just one win away from kick starting their campaign.
'I"m absolutely certain that one win can get us going,' he said. 'Once we get that win and with it the confidence, we will be flying.'
The opening batsman has plied his trade in the Home Counties League for many years so has the experience but the majority of his team-mates do not.
'I"ve played in sides that have won the league and been in relegation battles so do know about it,' remarked Khan. 'The important thing is that we are getting into winning positions, if we weren"t doing that and getting rolled over every week you would be worried but we are getting into positions to win games.
'There"s plenty of reasons to be positive. Every game we"ve played in we"ve been in winning positions. That is the important thing, now we need to capitalise on them soon.'
Indian, Vinod Chanwitya made his debut for Slough in the draw with Banbury on Saturday and the Upton Court Park outfit will be hoping for big things from him as they look to turn draws into wins and push away from the bottom two.
'Vinod"s got first class experience with Rajasthan in Indian,' remarked Khan.
'He"s completely unknown to us but came recommended.
'He looked good, he will add something in the field, his medium pace will tie down an end which will be good and he played some good strokes, looked like a very good cricketer. However, the important thing for an overseas player is that you want them to go on and get big scores to win you games so that is what we will be looking for him to do because like the rest of us he got himself out.'
Khan added: 'We are really, really positive from what we"ve seen of him.'
