LYNCHPIN continued their charge toward an historic third consecutive East Berkshire Premier Division title after a 4-1 win against KS Gryf on Saturday.

The defending champions have won all eight league matches this season and are now eight points ahead of the chasing pack.

Lynchpin started the game well but the Gryf keeper was in fine form and made a number of top draw saves to deny them the lead.

Then, on the counter-attack, a mistake by a defender allowed striker Bartosz Biela clean through on goal and he slotted coolly past the keeper to put Gryf one up against the run of play.

A minute or so later, Olly Jemmett broke free of the visitor’s defence after some fancy footwork only to be brought down inside the box.

Stuart Moulder stepped up and sent the Gryf keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1 on the stroke of half time.

In the second period, Lynchpin started much the same and created a number of chances only to be denied again by the outstanding away team keeper.

The home side then made a couple of changes to inject some pace into the game and immediately it paid off as Josh Christopher linked-up cleverly with Dean Papali who finished well.

Lynchpin continued to pile on the pressure and an exquisite 18-yard chip from Jemmett made it 3-1.

A further goal from Papali – his 17th goal in the last 11 games – saw the match finish 4-1.

Iver Heath Rovers moved up into second place in the table following a 5-0 win away at Old Windsor, in a match that was close for about 75 minutes.

After Carl Elcombe was fouled just outside the penalty area by Bjorn Dunkley, Sam Thomas curled a beautiful free-kick into the top right-hand corner to give Iver the lead.

The score stayed at one-nil for a long time until Ben White scored a hat-trick inside 10 minutes.

The long-awaited return of Jamie Mayland was rewarded with a fine finish to make it 5-0 late on.
