REAL Milan have progressed into the semi-finals of the Ken Gomm Challenge Cup this season after a 4-1 win at Wraysbury Bentons on Sunday.

The quarter-finals tie was a repeat of the final last year, where Wraysbury were controversially stripped of the silverware for fielding an ineligible player, and was a very entertaining game of football.

In a cagey first-half, Bentons took the lead with a freakish goal on 30 minutes.

A free-kick by Charlie Samuels evaded everyone and found its way into the back of the net via the crossbar and Milan keeper Hasan Hussain.

Milan made some tactical changes at the break and they were rewarded with an equalising goal early on in the second-half.

A bursting run by full-back Jermaine Payne saw him cross the ball low and hard into the six-yard box where captain Riccardo Cannon slid home to level the scores.

The visitors were now on the front foot and they took the lead moments later as a superb 25-yard free-kick by Conrad Joseph found its way into the goal, with the Wraysbury keeper having no chance of stopping.

Milan got a third goal with 10 minutes remaining as Daniel Sharp set up Cheyenne Cripps, who scored with a rocket of a finish from the edge of the box, firing past the keeper who at his best could not stop the finish.

The away side settled the tie as man-of-the-match Raj Gill broke through, going past four Bentons players before releasing Nash Mohammed, who made no mistake with a composed finish.

Milan still had to defend well late on as Wraysbury looked dangerous and a fine goalline clearance from the impressive Payne denied them any chance of a comeback.

Real Milan will now host The Swan Burnham in the semi-finals at Burnham Grammar School this Sunday (10.30am).

Maidenhead Crown increased their prospects of winning the Division Two title this season after a 4-1 win against Phoenix Old Boys on Sunday.

The Crown went into the match at Desborough Park knowing that they had to win their three remaining fixtures to stand any chance of being crown champions with the chasing pack all having games in hand.

Phoenix arrived on a high after recently lifting the Mary Wells Memorial Cup and, with Maidenhead still to play the other top two sides in the division, it was their final potential banana skin.

The game started at a good pace and after around 10 minutes Matthew Smith put The Crown a goal ahead. He beat his man for pace before placing a shot underneath the Phoenix keeper.

The second goal came on 25 minutes after a poor clearance from the Phoenix stopper fell straight to the feet of Alan Burton, who showed great composure to finish into the empty net from 30-yards.

Maidenhead extended the lead when a good delivery by David Butler found top scorer Steven Eaton who, from inside the six-yard box, found the net with a good header.

Into the second-half and referee Mark Graham decided to award a penalty to Phoenix, even though the offence appeared to take place outside the box. The resulting spot-kick was converted on 70 minutes.

With five minutes left to play, Eaton ran through and beat the keeper with a good low finish into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal to secure all three points.
