LANGLEY Galaxy Sunday held their nerve to beat BT Coatings 4-2 on penalties and lift the Berks & Bucks Sunday Junior Cup this season.

Sean Hill equalised for Langley deep into time added on at The Meadow in Chesham and Galaxy manager Scott Bright believes Coatings could not recover from the blow for the shoot-out.

He told the Observer: “We knew we were coming up against a great side and had to play well to win. Their centre forward has played for Wales at under-19 level in the past.

“We didn’t play at our best in the first half. Coatings had a lot of the ball and were definitely the better side.

“But, we came out better in the second period. We were on top and creating chances.

“They knocked it around like a very good side but, after the equalising goal, you could see they were tiring big time. We were in their half for the last 15 minutes and had more of the ball. The late equalising goal really killed them.

“Anyone has a chance in a penalty shoot-out and you could see Coatings were tiring. We went first and always kept the pressure on.

“They were still struggling to get over the equaliser I think. It was a shock for them and took them by surprise.”

The success was the second leg in a famous five-day cup treble for Langley and Bright believes his team is getting what they deserve this season.

“We weren’t really expecting anything at the start. We were just going to take it one game at a time and see where it gets us,” he explained.

“But we’re finally getting what we deserve for all the hard work and commitment the players are putting in. We were good in the second half on Sunday but better on Friday.”
