LANGLEY have reached the Slough Town Senior Cup final this season after a 4-2 win on penalties against Delaford on Saturday.

Langley fell two goals behind in the semi-final tie but captain Paolo Cicero scored twice to force the shoot-out, where the East Berkshire Premier Division champions held their nerves to win.

John Thirkell manages the Langley team and told the Observer: “Delaford were in control in the first-half and scored two goals before half-time.

“Paolo then took a free-kick just before the break and bent it into the top corner to get us back into the game.

“We took over in the second-half and Delaford can’t complain about that. We had a lot of the ball and possession.

“There was a lack of football because of a swirling wind so it was more of a fight to win your headers and tackles, and we did that.

“It was a game of two halves. Delaford had the first half and we had the second. It’s quite simple.

“We were a totally different side in the second half and Delaford could not find a way to contain us.”

Thirkell added: “We’ve a fantastic keeper and he saved two penalties I had a few heart attacks during the penalty shoot-out but, our keeper twice kept us in the Berks & Bucks Cup with penalty saves, and he saved two more on Saturday.”

Langley will take on old rivals Chalvey Sports in this season’s final, and Thirkell said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to get into the final and am looking forward to it.

“We will 100 per-cent be the underdogs but I promise we will give them a game.”

Langley will battle with Delaford for the Premier Division title this season, and Thirkell is worried about the amount of matches his team still have to play.

“It’s quite frustrating because we have only played six league game, although we’ve taken 18 points and only have two goals against us.

“It will be more difficult towards the end of the season with the possibility of having to play three times a week. That will put us right under pressure but we have to take it one match at a time.

“We have a lot of quality in the squad, which means people play on a Sunday as well, and are doing well.

“So, there’s a possibility, with all the cup matches as well, some people might be playing five times a week. It all depends if we’ve got the legs to see out the season.

"Delaford are in a better position because they've played more games but we will certainly not be giving anything up."
