HAT-TRICK hero Jason Marney ensured Burnham United were crowned East Berks League Division One champions after they beat New Hanford 5-1 on Saturday.

United raced out of the blocks and showed their intent, in what was a must win game, and were ahead inside five minutes with Marney grabbing his first of the match after a glaring error from the visiting keeper.

Sloppy defending from the home side allowed Hanford an equaliser before Dan Quarterman netted from the spot after Marney's shot was handled in the area.

Marney then completed his treble with two goals inside 60 seconds just before the break. Firstly Adam Spellman's through ball was finished with aplomb, then Ricky Allen dispossessed the Hanford strikers from kick-off and Marney coolly rounded the keeper for his 30th of the campaign.

United took their foot off the gas in the second half, however, they extended their lead after Ivan Harper headed in a Quarterman free-kick for his first of the season.
