A MASSIVE blow was sustained by ex-Chesham striker Gary Sippetts who suffered a bizarre injury at work that could keep him out for a long time.

Slough Town manager Steve Bateman said: 'Gary had a freak accident at work. He works for a manufacturing organisation of double glazed windows and dropped glass on his ankle area and severed the tendons.

'He"s now got a good period of recovery, we"ve got to monitor that and see how it goes. It happened on the eve of pre-season training but he is naturally disappointed.

"Hopefully it"s something that he can recover from, he"s had the procedure - it"s how he recovers from it. It is too early to say how long it will be but I think it will be long rather than short term."

It could force the boss to step up his pursuit of another striker to bolster the squad.

'We"ve been chatting with one or two other possibles and it"s something that we might have to set up and be a bit more aggressive about but until I"ve a medical view I"m not sure,' he said.

However, Bateman was delighted with Slough"s first training session of the pre-season.

'It was a good session, a good turn out,' he remarked. 'I"ve still got one or two that are away on holiday that will start to drift back next week.

'In the main we worked hard, quite a lot of players are happy to get back and get ready for the challenge ahead.

'It was fairly easy although we did bleep test them to see where they are in their levels of fitness and I"m very impressed. It"s quite clear that some of the boys have been doing quite a bit over the summer.'
