DANNY Guthrie says Reading FC will be going all-out for victory when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Madejski Stadium this Sunday (4pm ko, live Sky Sports).

Both sides go into Sunday's tea-time fixture looking for their first Premier League win of the season.

And Guthrie insists there will be no reason to fear Andre Villas Boas' visitors on the day.

Royals have made their intentions clear in their opening two games after drawing 1-1 with Stoke City then leading Chelsea at Stamford Bridge until the 70th minute before losing 4-2.

And from what Guthrie has seen of the division so far, he is relishing the chance to lock horns with Spurs in the televised clash.

"We gave a great account of ourselves at Chelsea and, from day one, we've said it doesn't matter who we are playing, we want to win the game," explained the ex-Newcastle United midfielder.

"We tried doing that at Stamford Bridge and we'll be trying again on Sunday. We're at home, it's our first game on the telly and I'm sure it will be a great occasion for everyone involved." Reading have been without a league fixture now for more than three weeks as a result of their Sunderland trip being postponed and the Chelsea fixture being brought forward due to the UEFA Super Cup.

But Guthrie says they will be ready to go when the whistle blows on Sunday.

"It's been a long break after missing the Sunderland game and then the international break, but it is what it is," declared the 25-year-old. "I don't really know if it will affect us but at least we've got time to prepare for the Spurs game." While Brian McDermott's Royals may benefit from the extended preparation time, a number of his players will not be returning from international duty until today (Wednesday) and tomorrow.

Alex Pearce (Republic of Ireland), Kaspars Gorkss (Latvia), Adrian Mariappa (Jamaica) plus Welsh trio Chris Gunter, Simon Church and Hal Robson-Kanu have all been away with their respective countries since last week.

And centre-back Pearce admitted: "I don't remember having such a long break as this - it seems like I'm on summer holiday again.

"But we need to keep focused and do the right things so that we're not rusty for the Tottenham game.

"Everything is geared up for Sunday and we've got to focus our minds on getting the right result." Pearce, though, believes Reading could be meeting Spurs at just the right time, with pressure mounting on Villa Boas.

Tottenham were booed off the pitch after drawing 1-1 with Norwich City in their last Premier League outing, and Pearce argued: "Any team you play against in this league will have real quality and Tottenham have certainly got that in abundance.

"But we're at home and we'll be looking at the game as a chance to get three points.

"Spurs haven't been in the best form and we'd like to think that any team coming to the Madejski Stadium will get a tough game.

"I'd say it is a good time to play Spurs. They've been struggling a little bit, but we need to focus on ourselves.

"If we play like we can we will cause any team in this league problems." ALEX Pearce is celebrating his first call-up by the Republic of Ireland.

The 23-year-old was invited to join Giovanni Trapattoni's squad ahead of their friendly against Oman at Craven Cottage tonight (Tuesday).
