SLOUGH Town FC joint-boss Neil Baker believes his side’s team unity and spirit is firing them toward the Division One Central play-offs this season.

The Rebels maintained their excellent form with wins at AFC Hayes and Barton Rovers last week, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches and cementing their position as one of the most in-form teams in the division.

Slough are now one of five clubs involved in a dramatic title race, a remarkable achievement considering they had lost eight times before the turn of the year.

However, Baker has cooled any talk of winning the division and warned against complacency ahead of the trip to bottom club Ashford Town (Middx) tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm ko).

Speaking to the Observer, he said: “Everyone gets on well, they’re a great group of lads and have been for a while now.

“We had one poor month in December and if it wasn’t for that we would be right up there. We didn’t think we would get to the play-offs at that stage of the season.

“All we have done is given ourselves a chance and we’ve got to finish the season strongly.

“Until something is not achievable you’ve still got a chance, but if I’m honest, I don’t think we will win the title. There’s too much that needs to be done and go our way.” Baker added: “Ashford will be tough but it’s like that in every game. We can get beaten on Saturday and all of a sudden we’re not favourites for the play-offs.

“We will try and get the win and then worry about the following week, there’s something on all four of our remaining games. Ashford are a tough side with a relatively new manager, who has got them playing well. They have a good record and have been working hard, so we know it won’t be easy.” Looking back on the win at Hayes he added: “They’ve been a bit of a bogey side for us as players and managers, so it was a good three points in reality.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
