BURNHAM FC chairman Gary Reeves believes the club is now in a position to deliver its five-year plan after the guarantee of Southern Premier football next season.

Reeves admits it has been a whirlwind of a season at The Gore a year on from the jubilation of winning the Division One title and promotion into Step Three.

Ex-manager Martin Stone set Burnham on their path to survival and new boss Rob Mallinson finished the job with a 2-1 win at home to Corby Town on Saturday.

And now, plans are being laid out to ensure the football club continues to move forward, with the possibility of Conference football in the years to come.

Speaking to the Observer, Reeves said: “It’s been a tough few weeks because we’ve not had the rub of the green. I’m pleased with the boys and thanked them for their efforts on Saturday. We got stuck into Corby and it was a good three points.

“It is important for the club to move forward in this league, and I am really pleased we’ve got there. It has been hard for Rob but he’s a young man and has managed to steady the ship.” Describing the five-year plan, Reeves explained: “We’ve had a workshop to look at ways to get ahead, it includes Conference football and hopefully we can start to put that in place next season.

“We will discuss a budget with Rob and players are welcome to help rebuild next season. We have learnt a lot this season so next year will be different.

“This season has been an experience for the club and we will have a conversation with Rob in terms of moving forward, May is when the work starts.

“We’re trying to get people to look at our club and encourage them to come on board, that is why it is some important to be at this level. Hopefully it’ll help raise our profile within the community.

“There is still a lot of work to be done but I’m confident we can deliver and start to show everyone what we can do.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
