SLOUGH Town FC have named Jamie McClurg as their new club captain for the 2014/15 season.

With ex-skippers Adam Foulser (injured) and Dave Woozley (unavailable) both set to miss the start of the season, a new captain was needed.

McClurg joined the Rebels in June 2013 from Godalming Town and became an instant hit with his exceptional work rate in midfield and his ability to pop up with vital goals.

Speaking to the Observer ahead of a return to pre-season at Slough tomorrow (Tuesday), joint boss Jon Underwood commented: “Jamie is a really big player in the changing room in terms of being a leader. He stepped up in the second-half of last season - he was outstanding.

“He scored the winner in the [play-off] final and no-one deserves that more than him. Like Adam, he leads by example and it will be a popular choice amongst the players.” Slough are expected to trial new defenders this pre-season with the aim of adding strength in defence. Right back Sean Fraser is also set to miss the first three games due to work commitments.
