STRENGTH in numbers has proved vital to Slough Town FC’s impressive start to the new season, according to joint-boss Jon Underwood.

The Rebels were victims of a growing injury list in pre-season, which included star player Warren Harris and top goalscorer Edward Smith.

Underwood and fellow manager Neil Baker countered that with new signings in the summer, and knew their team improve as the season got under way.

However, the Rebels have taken the Southern Premier by storm, going unbeaten in their opening four matches.

They beat rivals Burnham 2-0 on the opening day, and were then denied victory at Hereford United by a last minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

On Saturday, they beat Banbury United 2-1, before conceding a late equaliser again in a 1-1 draw with Biggleswade Town on Tuesday.

Slough sit in eighth place ahead of a trip to Paulton Rovers tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm ko), and Underwood is confident his side will keep on improving.

Speaking to Rebels Radio said: “We had 18 players available for Banbury, and it was difficult to pick a starting 11 and substitutes.

“We’ve got a very strong squad and a few more to come back, so we will have more of those decisions to make.

“As long as you’re as honest as you can be the players will have to accept it.

“We had five very good players on the bench, and it’s good to have a bench as strong as we do because it gives us options.

“We’re still finding our feet at this level with some new players, but we will get better and better.

“We’re creating chances and the worry only comes if you’re not. We’re certainly not worried at the moment.” Looking back at the win against Banbury, Rebels’ first home victory of the season, Underwood said: “We came out of the blocks very sharp.

“If we had been 3-0 up at half-time they couldn’t have complained.

“We put a lot of clinical balls into the box so if we had been more clinical it would’ve been more.

“We need to make sure that we improve when we’re dominating and get a couple more goals in the bag.

“Not taking our chances can hurt us. It we do it in other games we may get punished.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action including a Slough Town FC special** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
