JOINT-boss Neil Baker has challenged his Slough side to take their chances after a 1-1 draw against Histon on Saturday.

The Rebels created enough opportunities in the first half-hour at Holloways Park to secure victory over the ex-Conference club.

However, they did not take them and had to settle for a point against nine-man Histon, something which disappointed Baker.

He admitted Slough were poor – something they have not been criticised of this season – and allowed the visitors a route back into the game.

Speaking to Rebels RadioBaker bemoaned: “It was a very disappointing performance and we were poor. There’s not much glossing over that, we threw away three points.

“We should’ve gone 1-0 after 10 seconds if I’m honest. I felt we should’ve scored.

“But then, for five minutes, I thought we were poor and that’s pretty much what we were like for the vast majority of the game.

“We had a 10-15 minute spell where we were on top and creating chances for fun. I counted six or seven but we only took one.

“If you don’t take your chances you get punished in football, and at the moment we are not taking them.

“That’s not good enough from our point of view, and we were bitterly disappointed to only have been 1-0 up at half-time.

“It allows a team to hang on to a game and we obviously got punished.” Baker continued: “It’s frustrating but our position hasn’t changed, and at the moment we have to remain positive.

“We have still got these lads who scored all our goals missing, and we need to get them back onto the pitch.

“The real story is we have got players who can score goals sitting on the bench at the moment, not fit.

“Goals change games and if we take our chances we’re maybe three or four ahead at half-time, and the game is dead.

“By not taking your chances it makes the afternoon harder as the game goes on. It gives teams a belief that they can go on and nick a goal, and that’s exactly what happened.” That said, Baker did pick out a trio of players for praise after the draw against Histon.

“Jamie McClurg is an unsung hero for us,” he added. “He works his socks off and his passing has been really good this season.

“He worked hard and wanted it, but he didn’t have much back-up.

“James Dobson has probably been one of our stand out performers this year. He’s direct and creates chances, everything we want in a winger to be honest.

“Reece Yorke (man of the match) is very steady, he wins a lot of his headers and his tackles.

“Those are the only ones that we can pick out and say came off with some credit.

“We said that in the changing room and have got no problems telling everyone else.

“It wasn’t good enough from the others and we need to make sure that they get back to their standards.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action including an interview with Slough joint-boss Jon Underwood** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
