FALCONS chairman Sajjad Hussain will welcome people of ‘all shapes and sizes’ to the club he re-launched this summer.

Hussain first established the football club back in 1994 with the aim of introducing more people from ethnic minorities to the sport he loves.

However, Falcons FC were forced to take a year out at the start of last season because of financial liabilities.

But now, the Harvey Park outfit have returned to the East Berkshire League under a more secure foundation.

Speaking exclusively to the Observer, he explained: “We didn’t stop because of football reasons, we were doing fine.

“But players owed the club liabilities and I know that’s a problem in the East Berkshire League.

“People wanted to play but to move forward we had to pay their liabilities, so I established an account and collected £600 in fines for the club.

“I love Falcons FC and want to make a difference, and now it’s run at a steady pace.

“I have been involved in the East Berks League since 1994, so it’s nothing new to me.

“I was aware of players who struggle to get on the ladder, so it’s a new look altogether.

“It’s all about getting young people off the streets and into football. I want to get everyone involved because the club fits all shapes and sizes.

“As long as you can kick a ball you can come and play for me.

“I am a level two qualified coach so really want to train the youngsters in some shape or form.

“I’m looking for a steady start and a platform to move forward.

“I am also in talks with Asian Star Radio for a slot to talk about local football.” Falcons get the new season under way tomorrow (Saturday, 2pm ko) with a home tie in the East Berks League Cup.

And Hussain knows it will be tough against FC Beaconsfield of the Premier Division.

“It’s like being dropped into the deep end and seeing how far you can swim,” he said.

“It’s a hard challenge and some of our younger players haven’t played senior football before.

“I’m being realistic and not expecting miracles. I am not fussed about this week against an established Premier side.

“It’s a test to see how far we have come. I’m excited and look forward to the rest of the season.

“I’m happy with the way it’s going and am working towards a good network of players.

“The people we’ve got in are well known in the league, and pre-season has been great.

“We played some higher level teams with good results, and it’s better than I expected.” Falcons play their first match in Division Three on September 13, at home to FC Beaconsfield Reserves.
