LANGLEY Galaxy joint-boss Paul Card wants his players to keep their feet firmly on the ground despite making an impressive start to the new season.

The Harvey Park club got the new campaign underway with a League Cup win at Langley Reserves, and followed that up with a 7-2 win against the same opposition on Saturday.

They are one of the fancied teams to win the Division Two title this year, and Card expects a promotion challenge.

But he is not getting carried away with their unbeaten start to the East Berks’ season.

Speaking to the Observer Card said: “A lot of people have made us favourites to win the league, and we’re stronger this year.

“But we are not getting our hopes up and our heads too big, and it’s a challenge because we have gone up a league as well.

“If we get into the top three I will be happy, but we do want to try and win a cup as well.

“Britwell won the league last season, but they don’t look as strong to me.

“It would be nice to get one back over Britwell and with the side I have got we’re confident, but we can’t just assume.” He added: “We keep going for 90 minutes. When heads are down, they’re not down for too long as everyone works hard for each other.

“There’s never any animosity, always encouragement and the boys know that.” Galaxy put Langley Reserves to the sword last Saturday with Levi Jefford bagging a hat-trick and Matthew Clark registering a four-goal haul.

Chris Arendale scored twice for the visitors, but Card insists it was one-way traffic.

He added: “Everyone knows each other so there’s a bit of a local derby to it now.

“We have a strong side and always had a good chance of beating them, and it was pretty comfortable as well.

“A couple of players left us to go to them, so they’re probably regretting that now.

“We played well, in the first half we were all over them and it should have been double figures by half-time.

“In the second-half, Langley came back at us for 10 minutes and we were a little bit shaky, but we were confident that we would get the win.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out every Friday, for all the latest sports news and action including our exclusive East Berkshire League coverage** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
