SLOUGH Town FC Supporters Trust chairman Mike Lightfoot has hailed Slough Borough Council’s planning application for Arbour Vale as ‘a step in the right direction’.

The Council hope to transform the run-down Stoke Road site with an application that includes a new stadium for The Rebels.

The plans will also contain an artificial 3G pitch and covered seating for at least 250 fans.

Lightfoot said: “It’s fantastic news and long overdue, but there is a long way to go yet of course.

“It is definitely a step in the right direction and it’s onwards and upwards, it can only get better. We’re up at Beaconsfield which is a long way out of the town, but now we can move Slough Town back home.

“Let’s get it right, the Arbour Vale site is 10 minutes walk from the station and is an ideal location. The side is doing okay and we’ve got a great chairman, but what the town really needs is a team at its centre.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out Friday, for the full story including an interview with Slough Town FC chairman Steve Easterbrook** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter @Observer_sports**
