BURNHAM FC joint-boss Gareth Risbriger admits that he has work to do before his team can start to climb the table.

Risbriger and fellow manager Danny Gordon took over at The Gore from ex-boss Gary Meakin two weeks ago.

The pair have suffered a baptism of fire after two draws and two defeats from their first four matches in charge.

The Blues endured a 0-0 bore draw against Hitchin Town on Saturday before being thrashed 4-0 by Arlesey Town on Tuesday.

The results mean Burnham have slipped to second from bottom in the Southern Premier Division table, and four points from safety.

Risbriger told the Observer that he and Gordon are still in the same position as they were a fortnight ago.

However, he insists that his players will improve and that a first win is just around the corner.

Risbriger said: “Danny and I knew that management is something that we wanted to do and now we’ve got the opportunity.

“We know what the club want to achieve but we’ve got to get things right first.

“We are ambitious but we have got to think of the first task ahead, to climb up the table and out of relegation.

“There have been a few new faces arrive but mainly players who are keen to keep the shirt.

“We are up for giving players their chance and Burnham have got a good base, we’re not that far away.

“It was a massive blow to lose Nikke Kabamba to Hemel Hempstead, but I’m confident that the lads we’ve introduced can start scoring.

“Danny and I have been in teams that want to pass, but you’ve got to earn the right to win with a good work ethic.

“If you don’t get a foothold you won’t be able to compete, but we will look to play with a high tempo.” Risbriger continued: “On Saturday, we took two steps forward but the defeat to Arlesey was two steps back.

“It was a big blip and we are in the same position as when we first took over.

“We weren’t a million miles away apart from Tuesday night. Arlesey knuckled down and just wanted it a little bit more.

“Every new management team wants that first win straight away but we’ve got to make sure that things go right.” Burnham welcome Cirencester Town to The Gore this Saturday (3pm ko) before a trip to Banbury United next Tuesday (7.45pm).
