SLOUGH Town FC joint-boss Neil Baker has put their 2-1 win against Dorchester on Saturday down to a game of darts.

The Rebels had failed to win any of their three previous matches at Holloways Park but were victorious thanks to a second-half strike from Johnnie Dyer.

Baker was delighted with the three points and admitted that a change of pre-match preparation was key to the victory.

Speaking to Rebels Radio, he revealed: “It’s no secret that our best performances seem to come on the road this season, and even last season.

“That normally means we’ve got together early, we have got on the coach and the lads have had a bit of banter.

“We decided we would meet up at 12.30pm at Farnham Park and the club put on a really good lunch.

“We played a bit of table football, a bit of pool, a bit of darts. That was good and it got the lads together.” Slough started well and took the lead through Ed Smith, but Dorchester levelled following a mistake from goalkeeper Jake Somerville.

However, the hosts responded in the second-half and snatched a winner through Dyer, with Baker paying tribute to the hitman.

He beamed: “I’m absolutely delighted for Johnnie. He’s had to be patient but came on and scored a great goal.

“It was a brilliant ball from Adrian Sears and a typical Johnnie finish. We know what a good player he is and that will give him confidence.

“In his career he’s had spells where he scores in clusters, and he will score a lot of goals.” Baker was also delighted with the performance of central midfielders Sear and Ben Edwards, who he claimed, ‘didn’t lose one battle in the game’.

He was also pleased with how his side earned the victory after going back in front.

Baker gushed: “We battered them for the last 25 minutes. We were first to everything and looked bright as a team, we were very together.

“We scored the second and I thought we saw the game out really well. I don’t think they created anything for the last 25 minutes.” Slough visit Chesham United on Boxing Day (1pm ko) before hosting Hungerford Town on New Year’s Day.
