GEORGE Short has opened his heart on a shock return to Slough Town FC this week.

Short, 21, first joined The Rebels from Godalming Town back in June 2013 and he helped the club to win an historic promotion last season.

The midfielder opted for a return to Godalming in November after injury and commitments at work stunted his progress with Slough.

However, in a dramatic U-turn, Short re-signed for The Rebels yesterday (Thursday) and could begin his second spell at the club on February 7.

He is currently sidelined with an adductor problem, but hopes that much-loved club physio Kevin McGoldrick will have him fit for the clash with Corby.

And in an exclusive interview with the Observer, Short admit it was the ‘great atmosphere’ that lured him back to Slough.

He confessed: “We had some great times last year and I missed it straight away, that is the first thing I can say.

“There is always a great atmosphere in the dressing room and around the place and, other than the football, it’s the first thing I missed.

“I cut my head at Truro and found it difficult out of the team for a bit.

“It was a long way for me to travel from where I live and I was just getting tired.

“It was frustrating doing the travelling and not playing so I made the decision to leave, but I missed the club so much.

“I missed the boys, the managers, the training and the coaches that you don’t get to see behind the scenes.

“I spoke to Neil Baker and Jon Underwood and we agreed that it would be beneficial for me to re-sign.

“Experiencing a different dressing room makes you realise how special Slough Town is, and its dressing room.

“It is such a tight knit group with no clicks, that is why it’s such a great place to be and play.

“I went from strength to strength at Slough and thought that I performed well in the play-off final win.

“I’ve been injured since the start of the year but am looking forward to getting fit again and kicking on.” Slough were in 14th position in the Southern Premier Division table when Short left the club and, now two places higher, he has not given up on the play-offs.

He said: “When you look at the table the ambition always has to be the play-offs. You never know if you go on a run.

“Until it is mathematically out of reach there is no reason why we can’t.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action including pictures from Slough versus Poole Town** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
