OLD Windsor FC needed sudden death penalties to knock rivals Datchet Village out of the League Challenge Cup on Sunday.

The quarter-final tie ended goalless, with the Rob Lazarczuk eventually breaking the deadlock in extra time. The Windsor forward capitalised on a mistake in the Datchet defence and scored when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Datchet drew level from the spot but missed their first two penalties in the shoot-out. Windsor failed to convert their last three attempts meaning the tie went to sudden death.

After a great save from Windsor keeper Mark Banfry captain Lewis Fogarty finally brought the contest to an end, sparking scenes of jubilation from players and supporters alike.

Alpha Arms Academicals will defend their Berks & Bucks Sunday Junior Cup crown in this season’s final following a 4-2 win against Southcote.

Academicals defeated the previously unbeaten Reading Division One side 4-2 in extra time after a 2-2 draw in normal time on Sunday.

The holders took the lead on 25 minutes when Konnor Saunders finished from close range following a goal-mouth scramble in the Southcote box.

Southcote looked to take advantage of the favourable strong wind in the second half, and they levelled when Ashley Smith toe-poked the ball past keeper James Betts on 55 minutes.

Alpha restored their lead on the hour with a good finish from Barry Dunbar but came back Southcote, who laid siege on the host’s goal.

They were finally rewarded for their pressure on 81 minutes when a Tom Baddely long ball evaded the Alpha back line and Daniel Garrard scored from close range.

Southcote were gifted the opportunity to win the tie as John Airs fouled Garrard inside the box late on, but the resulting penalty was superbly saved by Betts.

Alpha restored their lead in the second period of extra time when Saunders back-heeled the ball past a melee of players in the visitors six-yard box.

The visitors pushed hard for another goal, but Alpha booked a place in the final late on when Dan Malloy found the back of the net with the final kick of the game.

Royale Cippenham suffered a 6-2 defeat at champions-elect The Bee Burnham in Thames Valley Sunday Football League Division Three.

Cippenham were buoyed by their recent form and deserved their early lead, a well taken Matthew Day goal inside 10 minutes.

However, Burnham grew into the contest and levelled when the visitors failed to clear their lines. They edged ahead when a speculative effort from just inside the box beat keeper Jack Roche.

Burnham added a third before half-time and were 4-1 up before Day scored his second of the game as Warren Brown had broken down the right wing.

The fifth goal could have been cancelled out for a foul on Roche and the sixth flattered Burnham, who need one one win to secure the title.

Real Milan narrowly avoided a shock defeat against Foresters Arms in round two of the Roy Lester Memorial Trophy.

Milan travelled to Division Four club Foresters Arms and came away with a narrow 3-2 on Sunday.

They fell behind when a free-kick was fumbled by keeper Jamal Richmond, allowing the Foresters forward to tap home.

The hosts doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after centre back Amin Khomsi was sent off for an incident only the referee appeared to see.

Real Milan made changes at half-time and pulled one back when an Owen Richardson shot took a deflection on its way past the keeper.

The visitors equalised with a fine team move finished off by Nyasha Mohammed from six-yards and involving Tony Mendy, Dan Hicks and Richardson.

And it was not long before they bagged a winner, Hicks dusted himself down after being fouled inside box and smashed the ball home from the spot.

Foresters’ frustrations boiled over soon after and they saw two players sent off for abusive language toward the referee.
