SLOUGH RFC have reached this season’s Bucks Plate final after a 31-3 win at rival club Chesham last Saturday.

The Greenies got the new season under way with a win on home soil against Chesham, but they have yet to reach top gear this term.

Head coach Darran Brown asked for a performance ‘close to the real Slough’ and his team answered the call with quality rugby in Bucks.

After falling behind early on in the semi-final, Slough recovered as Matthew Prince and Sion Street ran in before half-time.

Max Miles converted both for a 14-3 lead at the break, but he missed the target as James Flisher and Matt Fenwick crashed over.

However, Miles found his range again when Mikey Spandley danced his way through late on, setting up a final against Phoenix later this year.

Speaking to the Observer, Brown said: “We had complete control of the game really.

“We did all the things that we’ve talked about but chances were still wasted, so there is a little work to do.

“It was a good performance, but the last quarter made it look really comfortable.

“Chesham have a lot of pace but we controlled the important areas of the pitch.

“I didn’t want them crossing our line because I did not think that they were good enough to do it.

“I wanted a 40 minute display that I know we can deliver, and it started to happen in the last 20 minutes.

“It’s a case of squeezing the life out of sides and letting the scores happen when they come.

“We’ve got a very big pack but I’m very conscious to get guys at the break down and mix-up the style of play.

“I do not want teams saying that they know how to play Slough, so we’ve got guys that can change the way a game is played.

“We’ve got a lot of height which makes a big difference, and players are fitter than what they used to be.

“Favourites is a nice thing to have and it’s come from the effort put in over the last few years, but it is still a local derby.” Looking ahead to the final, Brown added: “If we do not play properly Phoenix are more than capable of beating us.

“We won good physical games against Phoenix last year but they won’t want to be cannon fodder.

“Looking at the league it’s their best chance of getting silverware, so anything can happen and we need to make sure that we are tuned in.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out every Friday, for all the latest sports news and action** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
