WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow [WSEH] Athletics Club won a silver medal at the National Road Relay Championships in Birmingham.

Hopes of a medal rested on the shoulders of the Under 17 (U17) ladies’ team, who had won two bronze awards at the Southern Championships.

The team went one better at Sutton Park with Eloise Davison giving WSEH an excellent start, finishing runner-up in the opening leg.

She finished in 14 minutes and two seconds (14m02s), and then Sarah Chapman held the position on the next leg with 14m07s.

Morven Goodrum ran the third fastest time overall at the championships, an excellent 13m28s, to secure the silver podium finish.

The U17 B-team of Alex Barbour (14m42s), Felicity Johnson (14m24s) and Kathryn Ditton (14m46s) finished in a prominent 10th position.

WSEH senior women had their moment of glory as Maryse Haynes won leg one in 14m24s.

Dini Barnes (15m41s) slipped to seventh place, and then Becky Anderson (16m07s) lost more ground on the third leg.

However, Charlotte Firth (15m39s) did an excellent job in leading the local club into a creditable eighth position.

Jack Goddard (12m50s) briefly led the U15 boys’ trio into 10th place but they eventually finished down in 16th position.

WSEH’s biggest disappointment was their inability to field a senior mens’ team. Alex Tovey (17m31s) the lone representative in seventh place.

The local club get the new Chiltern League Series under way this Saturday with a match at Cassiobury Park in Watford.
