SUSANNAH Foster and Michael Day were both victorious at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon County Epee and Sabre Championships on Sunday.

Day showed a good mix of skill and determination to push through a strong showing of Epeeists in the under-14 boys’ Epee.

Some had been fencing a lot longer than Day, but he made it through to the final and won the competition quite convincingly.

Day is now BB&0 County U14 champion which is a good follow up from his runners-up finish in the County Foil.

Fellow Salle Eton Fencing Club member, Foster, won the County U14 girls’ Sabre in 2013, so had a lot to live up to this year.

It was intensified by a move up in age group into the U16 category, but she started out very strongly.

Foster only dropped one fight in her pool round, but she had to face the same opponent in the final.

With a change of tactics, Foster went into the final confident of victory but the competitors were evenly matched.

Her opponent started to pull away after the minute break, but then Foster pulled the deficit back to win the final 15-14.
