SLOUGH Hockey Club ended week one of the Hockey 5s Championship in second position in the Women’s Premier Division.

The Upton Court Park side recorded two wins, one draw and a defeat from their first four matches with Alex Scott scoring 11 goals.

Slough got the new indoor season at Bromsgrove School, Worcestershire under way on Saturday with a 6-2 win against Harleston Magpies.

Slough narrowly missed out on the final last year, and they were able to welcome back Great Britain goalkeeper, Maddie Hinch.

The local club started well and took a 2-0 lead over Harleston, but they fought back and the teams traded goals until Slough led 4-2.

Slough then stepped up a gear and scored twice more to finish with a healthy win, with Scott grabbing four of the goals.

The second match was against Bowdon Hightown, who were the only team to beat Slough in the league round last season.

The Upton Court Park team started promisingly and took the lead in the fourth minute, but Bowdon struck back within 60 seconds to level the scores.

Both sides battled hard and Bowdon made a breakthrough to make it 2-1 before Slough struck back quickly to restore parity.

After a long goalless spell in the second-half, Bowdon scored again then added a fourth at the death for a 4-2 win.

On Sunday, continued the weekend with a 4-2 win against East Grinstead, followed by a 3-3 draw with University of Birmingham.

Slough return to Bromsgrove School with matches against Sutton Coldfield (11.30am push back) and Reading (3.30pm) on January 3. A day later, they take on Canterbury (10am) and Clifton (1pm) as they chase a place in this season’s final.
