WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletics Club enjoyed a superb start to 2015 as they produced six County Champions and eight team medals on the weekend.

It was a tough task for WSEH as they had to split their resources over four main venues at the County Cross Country Championships, but they dug in to secure a fantastic start.

The Berks Championships in Newbury produced three County Champions as Alex Tovey won the Senior Men’s race, Charlotte Firth took victory in the Senior Ladies and Morven Goodrum won the Under 17 Ladies’ race.

A marshalling mishap in the Senior event meant that the runners had to endure an unexpected further 1000m, but Tovey remained unphased, emerging with a comfortable victory.

Simon Millet was also involved and finished in a respectable seventh place.

Firth similarly dominated the Senior Ladies’ race to score a fine victory, while Emily Armstrong was not far behind in fifth place. Veteran Paula Hing completed the team scoring in 26th place to secure the team bronze medals, while Vicky Brookling grabbed 28th spot.

Goodrum, in the U17 race had a fine run to secure the gold award and to lead the WSEH team to silver team medals.

The other placings were Sarah Chapman in fourth, Felicity Johnson in fifth and Tilly Compton-Stewart in ninth place.

There were gold team awards in the U17 Men’s race. Niall Unger secured an individual bronze with his third place, with Joe Spicer fifth, and Ethan Tattersall - sixth - completing the team. The B team of Luke Unger, eighth, ninth-placed Matt Bradly and Jack Davies, 10th, took the bronze team awards.

The U15 Boys team were led home by Jack Goddard in fifth, with Ben Hooper finishing eighth and Dan Brookling ninth to claim the team silver medals.

Mahlah Tomsett was the best of the WSEH athletes in the U15 Girls race, taking the bronze medal. The U13 Boys team of Ross van Heerde, Jake Ward and Tristan Pearce picked up team bronzes, with Ewan Green in 18th being the other WSEH finisher.

There were two individual champions in the Bucks Championships in High Wycombe as Becca Croft took first spot in the U17 Ladies and Owen Richards in the U15 boys.

Croft eased to victory as she starts to hit top form again, whilst Katherine Skipper did well to finish in sixth place.

Richards has only just joined WSEH but he was in fantastic form to take victory, with new teammate Jack Burniston in 21st place.

There were team gold medals for the U13 Girls squad. Jemima Copeman led the way with an individual silver medal, followed by Morgan Hansen in fifth spot and Kate Thompson in sixth.

The U13 Boys’ race saw another individual silver medal for Dominic McDougall, while the Senior Men’s race saw Alex Goodall secure the individual silver.

The Under 13 Girls just missed out on the awards. Isabelle Craven (10th) was the best of the bunch followed by Lily Rolph (14th), Madison Foxcroft (20th) and Georgia Mead (30th).

There was more WSEH success in the Middlesex Championships at Trent Park where Hannah Novakovic grabbed her first County title in the U17 Ladies’ race.

James Finnigan was also among the awards with third place in the U20 Men’s race with Aiden O’Brien in close attendance in fourth spot.

WSEH athletes were also in action in the Surrey Championships in Croydon. Kathryn Ditton was best placed in fifth position in the U17 Ladies’ race though there were good runs from twins Blake and Adam Moore in the U17 Men’s race with 12th and 14th place finishes respectively.

120 athletes converged upon the Thames Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday to sweep away the Christmas excess by competing in the WSEH AC Indoor Open Meeting.

The competition was well attended by athletes including Morgan Lake who was an easy winner of the U20 60m hurdles in 8.87secs and the Shot Putt with a distance of 13.29m.

Trailing Lake in the U20 60m Hurdles were Katya Marks on 10.06secs and Nadya Wisham on 10.33secs. Best of the WSEH Male hurdlers was Peter Moreno with 8.26secs.

Joey Watson was also in action in the Shot hoping to claim Neil Griffin’s Senior Club record set in 1977, but his superb effort of 15.89cm fell agonisingly short by 20cms.

WSEH travel to Milton Keynes next Saturday to contest the fourth match in the Apex Sports Chiltern Cross Country league series.

They will however be without Maryse Haynes who has been selected for the Great Britain team contesting the Great Edinburgh Cross Country Challenge.
