CIPPENHAM Table Tennis Club have this week moved into the top-half of Division One South of the Senior British League.

Despite being under strength, the local club managed three points out of a possible four to climb up two places.

Tom Windram was the star of the show despite being promoted from number four to three in the team list.

Windram was ably assisted by Martin Adams and Rob Hansell, as well as last minute substitute Jurate Brazaityte.

Brazaityte won his last match and secured a point for the host team in the third meeting of the British League.

Cippenham got off to the best possible start against Urban as captain Adams led from the front with a demolition of Dob Tokov.

Adams won 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 before Hansell and Windram both came from behind to beat Alim Hirji and Tommy Gritton.

The pair recovered to defeat their opponents and stretch the early lead held by Cippenham to 3-0.

However, losses for Brazaityte and Adams brought Urban back into the match and the Cippenham bubble appeared to burst.

Windram made sure of the first point and his brace with a 3-1 win against Tokov.

Hansell then followed suit but was made to work for his 3-2 success over Mateusz Mikosz.

Hansell was two games down against a talented and quick opponent, but he summoned all of his renowned fighting spirit to turn the match around.

Brazaityte fought all the way with Gritton, but the Urban man prevailed 3-2 for a final match score of 5-3.

The match against MMJ Horsham started in reverse fashion as Adams surprisingly lost 11-8 in the fifth game to Anthony Kent.

The defeat was sandwiched in between losses for both Hansell and Brazaityte leaving the local club 3-0 down.

However, their man of the moment started the rescue as Windram easily saw off Scott Covey.

Adams gained retribution for his earlier loss with a fine 11-9 fifth game success over Dean Cundy, ranked ninth in Wales.

When Hansell lost 3-0 to Zayd Mathoor, Cippenham were 4-2 down and fighting for a point.

Windram made short work of Kent to give the local club hope, and it was left to Brazaityte to earn a precious league point.

With a typical fighting performance, she did just that with an epic 11-7, 14-16, 9-11, 13-11, 11-9 win over Covey.

It was a thoroughly rewarding day of play for a Cippenham team missing two of its major players.

The second team were hit even harder by non-availability against the top two sides in Division Three South.

It was always going to be tough with Tony Stead elevated to the number one position, and supported by Paul Baker and Steve Smith.

Club secretary Graham Trimming was also drafted into the number four position at the last moment.

Defeats were inevitable and they came in the form of 8-0 against Portsmouth and 7-1 at the hands of Horsham Spinners.

Smith played well throughout and beat Rory Scott in the match with Horsham, and only lost 11-7 in the fifth against Wojcieck Placek of Portsmouth.

Trimming was the only other player to win, and he led Martin Matezevicius 7-4 in the deciding game when his opponent called a time-out.

The decision was a timely and ultimately match-changing one, leaving Cippenham in seventh position in the table.
