BURNHAM Beeches Seniors FC have progressed into the East Berkshire League Cup semi-finals after a 3-1 win against Slough Heating Reserves.

The Cherry Orchard-based side defeated Slough Heating on Saturday with goals from Danny Robinson, Jonjo Evered and Ben Hudell.

Burnham Beeches joint-boss Dan Quarterman told The Observer that his side were comfortable after Robinson had given them the lead.

But he admits that they will need to produce ‘the game of their season’ to beat Iver Heath Rovers in the semi finals on April 11.

Quarterman said: “What we did well was win our personal battles first of all before we thought about trying to play football.

“That gave us the upper hand and from midway through the first half I thought that we were the better team.

“We didn’t have many clear cut chances, but after the first goal went in we settled down and found our rhythm.

“I’m disappointed not to keep a clean sheet but Slough Heating are a good side with a lot of individual talent.” Speculating on the semi-finals clash with Iver Heath, Quarterman added: “It will probably be our toughest test this season.

“On paper we’re a good side but it depends which team turns up. We’ve certainly got to turn up to stand any chance of beating Iver.

“From a league perspective, our season has been pretty disappointing, but in cups we generally seem to get a stronger team out.

“If we conduct ourselves correctly and play the right way then we’re capable of giving them a go.

“We’ve got to turn up with the right attitude, wear our hearts on our sleeves and play the game of our season to cause an upset.

“We haven’t played Iver Heath this year but they’re a strong team and doing well in the Premier Division.

“They are no mugs if they’re in the semi finals of the League Cup and they will fancy their chances.” Burnham Beeches were touted as contenders for the Division One title this season but find themselves down in seventh position.

Richings Park are the visitors to Cherry Orchard this Saturday (2pm ko), and Quarterman aims to consolidate their league status.

He said: “Richings Park are a decent and well organised side, but in general we tend to do better playing at home.

“We haven’t fired as we would’ve liked or expected this season and I don’t know what it is to be quite honest.

“Maybe our expectations were unrealistic and we were thinking that we’re better than what we actually are.

“But not having a settled side hasn’t helped, and it depends on our attitude when we turn up to play on Saturday.” Quarterman continued: “We’ve got to focus on our remaining games now including a couple of midweek fixtures.

“We will try and ensure that Barley Mow don’t go through the league season with a 100 per cent record.

“Our aim is to consolidate our position in the division with a mid-table finish, with one eye on the semi-finals.” **PICK up a copy of The Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action including pictures from Burnham Beeches versus Slough Heating** **FOLLOW The Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
