THE Observer has teamed up with Inspired Slough to offer readers the opportunity to participate in sports events as the borough of Slough lives in the legacy of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“THE Christmas holidays are now upon us and families will be spending a lot of time together, but that doesn’t have to mean staying cooped up in the house.

To help beat the festive bloat from all the rich food that will be consumed, there is a wide range of activities that are available over the holiday period, so you and your family can get active and enjoy some festive fun.

The whole family can get involved at Langley Park and Black Park with a choice of orienteering trails ranging between one and three miles. Maps are available and the courses take you around the parks searching for the posts that contain letters, which will spell out a word.

You can also take part in the free ‘Simply Walks for Health’ at Langley Park on 23rd and 30th December between 10-11am, where trained walkers will guide you on a brisk walk. Those wishing to join in should meet in the car park at 10am.

On Christmas Eve, children can ice skate with Father Christmas at Absolutely Ice. The free event is taking place between 12-2pm and is sure to be an experience that will never be forgotten.

If you or your children receive new bikes for Christmas, why not make use of one of the many cycle routes in the area.  You could also look to join a Sky Ride cycle, where an experienced guide will take a group of riders around the area. Local leisure centres are open throughout the Christmas period, so it could be an opportunity to kick-start a healthy 2014 plan by trying something new.

Whether that’s using the pool at Langley; booking a badminton court at Herschel or hitting the gym at Montem - which includes a wide range of fitness programmes for under-16s - each centre has a number of activities that the whole family can take part in.”
