SOPHIE Papps admits she is itching to get back on the Hampden Park track in the women’s 4x100m relay and continue her Commonwealth Games experience.

Three years on from winning 100m and 4x100m relay gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Papps is currently in the midst of her first senior Games.

She got off to a strong start in the women’s 100m, reaching the semi-finals where she finished seventh to miss out on a place in the medal showdown.

The 19-year-old - who considered quitting the sport last year and struggled with injuries at the start of 2014 - could be back on the track on Friday in the relay heats, and she intends to up her performances once more.

“I’ve had an amazing time at my first Commonwealth Games,” she said. “I was pleased to make the semi-final of the 100m.

“I’ve had a hard year. I spoke to my coach Dan [Cossins] on the phone the night before the race and he said it’s not been easy but you’ve got the chance now.

“It didn’t turn out that bad in the end and to run out in the stadium is incredible. Every time you run you want to do your best, and I get another chance to experience that in the relay.

“I know things that went well and things that didn’t go well, so I will take that from the 100m and into the relays.” Papps has long been one to watch having also won silver at last year’s European Junior Championships, although she admits Glasgow was proving a real eye-opener.

“I’ve been growing and learning everyday here,” she added. “I’m so thankful for the support that I’ve had from everyone and, even when I’ve found things tough at points, they’ve encouraged me to be better and I’ve kept my head on.” Commonwealth Games England (CGE) leads and manages the participation of the Team England at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.
