BURNHAM CC skipper Harveer Gandam admits he will consider whether to stay as captain after a disappointing season saw his side finish seventh in the Home Counties Premier League Division One.

The Memorial Ground side were top of the table after eight weeks of the season, but won just two of their final 10 games - including one abandonment – to fall out of title contention.

Burnham’s batting frailties were once again ruthlessly exposed during a 45-run defeat against champions Henley last Saturday, as they slumped to 46-8 chasing 189 to win.

The experienced Shaid Nadeem (71*) led some resistance but they were eventually bowled out for 143, while Awais Zia (4-53) was earlier the pick of the Burnham bowlers.

But reflecting on the season, Gandam admitted: “I have mixed emotions.” “Looking back at what could have been, seventh place was a bit disappointing really. But the fact that we have stayed up and will play in this league next year is pleasing.” Burnham were particularly poor in the longer games, failing to win any of their declaration matches.

And speaking of those contests, Gandam confessed: “We got off to a great start and at Oxford we had the opportunity to draw the game in the last over, but we went for the win with eight runs needed.

“We ended up losing and went on a three or four game losing streak, which maybe dented our confidence.

“It is something to work on.” The skipper added his side will look to add seam bowling options and to bolster the batting line-up next season, and did not rule out a change of leadership.

He said: “There is a long way to go between now and the start of next season, and I am not going to committ to anything yet.

“I love the club, so we will sit down and think where we want to go.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out every Friday, for all the latest sports news and action** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
