SLOUGH RFC must learn to finish teams off, according to head coach Darran Brown.

The Greenies kicked-off the new season with a 36-27 victory over rivals Chesham at Upton Court Park.

Brown hailed the attitude of his players on Saturday, but says they need to be more clinical in order to compete with the best.

He told the Observer: “It was not bad, it could’ve been better but we will take it.

“I am not unhappy because I know there’s more to come, and we will have to be adaptable.

“It was a fantastic day and I hope we can repeat it, as well as the result. On the whole, the performance was at about 90 per cent of what we are capable of.

“There are some big positives. We kept them under pressure and the players’ attitude amongst themselves was very good.

“The players have come a very tough game first up and it was an exciting opening.

“There was a great atmosphere with the sponsors down, as well as the launch of the new kit.” Brown added: “We need to be sharper and increase or rate of conversion. We need to be more fluent and finish our chances.

“We’re only converting about 60-70 per cent in a game and it’s not high enough.

“Our lineout functioned well but it does need to be a little bit more explosive.

“It’s testament to Chesham’s belief in their ability to keep on coming back at us. Some of the better sides would’ve given up at that point.” Slough were due to clash with Aylesbury Athletic this Saturday, but they have now pulled out of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division.

It leaves The Greenies with a rest weekend, and time to work on improvements.

Brown added: “I don’t know who is going to be the best side in this league.

“I would like to think we will be in the top three, if not the top side in the division.

“I want teams to come to us and worry about us, but we need those conversion rates higher.” **PICK up a copy of the Observer, out now, for all the latest sports news and action including pictures from Slough versus Chesham** **FOLLOW the Observer on Twitter at @Observer_sports**
