SLOUGH Wrestling Club enjoyed fantastic success at the 32nd Wigan International Tournament on Saturday, November 5.

They claimed three gold medals and two silver as they signalled their return to the top of the junior wrestling ranks in the United Kingdom.

Seven year old Avi Singh was the star of the show as he claimed gold in the 24kg category, pinning all four of his opponents in superb style.

The other gold medal winners were Lucian Barratt who triumphed in the 35kg section and Jaskaran Singh in the 85kg category.

Silver medal winners were Inda Singh in the 30kg and Ranvir Singh in the 47kg.

Other club members to impress at the tournament were Luke Thorpe who finished fourth, Arunjot Singh in 11th and Mohammed Khan fifth in their respective categories in a prestigious event that included over 150 wrestlers.

Coach Ranjit Singh said: "The club performed very well considering it was wrestling in the heart of the Northern wrestling scene. Scotland and Wales and Belgium also put up a strong contention.

"The young Slough club is benefiting form the addition of a Macedonian coach, Trichev, who placed second in Europe eight years ago. He and all the coaches were pleased with the results."
