SLOUGH have maintained their perfect winning start to the new Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier season after a 30-24 victory against Didcot on Saturday.

The Greenies are targeting promotion this season and, though head coach Alan Walters admits that his team need to be more clinical, they were too good for Didcot at Tamblyn Fields.

Tries were scored by Max Miles and James Flisher plus two from Robbie Morrison. Miles was successful with half of his four conversion attempts and two early penalty kicks.

Walters told the Observer: “We targeted this fixture as one of the hardest of the season because Didcot did the double over us last season.

“We started very well in the first 20 minutes with a set gameplan but Didcot defended very well. We scored a try because the gameplan was strong to make it 11-0, but then we switched off and let them back in.

“Our discipline was outstanding but our fitness let us down in the middle period. I backed us to not lose the match and we scored another try late on to see the game out.

“But, there were four or five chances plus 8-10 line breaks that we didn’t support and lost the ball, so we need to be more clinical.”

Slough do not have a fixture this weekend and return to action away at Milton Keynes on September 30.

Walters commented: “We’re improving very well. We picked up a couple of injuries and a red card in the first game but those players will be back soon.

“We had a good session in midweek and, with no game this Saturday, the players can have a rest until training next week.”
