SLOUGH head coach Alan Walters has warned his side against complacency ahead of their trip to promotion rivals Wheatley this Saturday (3pm).

The Greenies maintained their perfect winning start to the season with a 57-17 victory over Tadley at Tamblyn Fields last weekend.

James Flischer was the star on show with his hat-trick as Slough continue to set the pace in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier.

Other tries came from Rhys Amos, Max Miles, Sam Rowe, Alex Stu, Ben Ambrose and Kev Dunne, while Miles was successful with six of his nine conversion attempts.

Walters believes the performance against Tadley was outstanding at times, but he knows there is room for improvement with tougher challenges to come.

He told the Observer: “We tend to stop playing because we’re so far ahead. The boys can’t stop playing, we must make sure that will not happen against the top five.

“Wheatley have started very well but lost to Milton Keynes last weekend [31-29] which was a bit of a shock.

“We will be very evenly matched, especially at the back, but we will play our game and just be ready for it. We’re close to the gameplan, but we need to continue to move forward.”

Commenting on the nine-try win against Tadley on Saturday, Walters said: “It was a very decent performance and there were positives in everything we did.

“Tadley attacked our set piece, but we put that right and played to our gameplan in the second half. We took it to them with nine tries in the end.

“In the first half Tadley gave us a big push and it took us a while to get going as usual. They were very different to last year, but the difference was our attack was quite strong.

“Defensively we were a lot better in the second half, but their backs spun the ball out wide very well to score an excellent try. That woke us up and we got going in the end.

“We’ve raised our game but there were a lot of flaws in their defence which we took advantage of. The scoreline was not a true reflection of the match, but at times it was a cracking performance from us.

“There were some cracking performances, especially from James Flischer and Rhys Amos, and basically the entire pack was outstanding.

“We didn’t look like losing the game, but at times we need to be more on our game to stop opposition attacks.

“There were a lot of flaws in our performance, but at times we looked a lot more positive than in the last few weeks.

“We’ve got ourselves in a good position and we can be competitive with two or three players in 60-70 per-cent of positions now.”
