SLOUGH head coach Alan Walters has explained that his side will take it month by month in their pursuit of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier title.

The Greenies have swept all before them so far this season and maintained their 100 per-cent winning record with a 42-27 victory at Didcot on Saturday.

James Flisher (two), Rob King, Ben Foster, Tom Young and Charlie Turner all scored tries in the victory, while Max Miles booted all six of his conversion attempts.

The win means Slough have a 16-point advantage of second-placed Littlemore in the league table, but Walters knows the job is not finished yet.

He told the Observer: “It was quite nice to have a break over Christmas because we’ve been quite intense since the end of May.

“We have put ourselves on a step to be knocked off but we’ve built a squad with a target to get promoted so we have set ourselves month by month targets.

“Unfortunately a lot of our first team forwards were unavailable for different circumstances on Saturday, but it did show the character and strength in depth we have now.

“The players that came in did a job and we were 26-5 ahead at half-time. Those that came in stood up and it was a good win.

“The players executed the gameplan perfectly with some of the best rugby I have seen since I’ve been at the club.

“The fitness levels of the players that came in did not help in the second half, but it didn’t make too much difference to be fair.

“Some of the backs defensive structure was very good but we fell asleep for 20 minutes in the second half and Didcot capitalised.

"They deserved to be closer but the quality of the players that stood up showed."

Slough welcome Milton Keynes to Tamblyn Fields this Saturday.

Walters said: "Milton Keynes is our prime target this week and then we have a little break which will be good for the injuries.

"They're a good side. Our set piece was too strong for them last time but I'm sure they have worked on that."
