GAVIN James has spoken of the buzz around Slough Town which has lured him to the football club for the new season.

James, 27, completed the switch from Maidenhead United this week after a meeting with Slough joint-boss Neil Baker.

“Slough approached to take me on loan last season but issues with my contract meant it could not be done at the time, so I ended up going to Kingstonian,” the striker told the Observer.

“Neil got in touch at the end of the season. He asked how my year had gone and if I would like to be a part of the set up at Slough.

“He told me how they plan to finish well in the league and it sounds like a really exciting time for the club. There sounds like a real buzz around the place.

“I just felt like a club the size of Slough, with all its history, is showing that it is trying to move forward again with a new stadium and 4-G pitch, which you can also train on.”

James enjoyed some of the best moments in his career last season. He made his international debut for St Vincent and the Grenadines in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, and played for Maidenhead against Port Vale in the FA Cup.

However, he admits his time with United was “disheartening” at times and is looking forward to playing, and scoring, on a regular basis at Slough.

James said: “It was a no-brainer to sign for Maidenhead at the time, but I left for an international break early on so had to fight for my place again.

“I never got a run of games after the FA Cup, which was a bit disheartening, and I felt I never got another chance.

“I don’t regret going to play in the World Cup, it’s the furthest our nation has ever been, but I have to take it for what it is. Most of the games are over now so I don’t see it being much of an issue at Slough.

“I look forward to playing on a regular basis and getting minutes at Slough, and helping them to maybe reach the play-offs.

“I have gone from scoring 50 goals with Flackwell Heath to being a bit-part player last season, so I want to get back playing regularly again.”
