SLOUGH TOWN joint-manager Neil Baker admits to being “a little disappointed” that some players were not able to take their chance as pre-season continued this week.

The Rebels finished fourth at the Hendon Tournament when a 0-0 draw and penalty shoot-out defeat to Farnborough on Saturday was followed by a 3-2 loss against Carshalton Athletic on Sunday.

Baker and fellow manager Jon Underwood used the tournament to check out the players available to them, and some failed to make their mark.

“It was always going to be the climax really where a few needed to show us what they could do,” Baker told Rebels Radio. “One or two have done OK but we need better than that.

“I’ll be having individual conversations with a few. There will be two probably going out on loan, and maybe three that will definitely be leaving.

“I’ve already spoken to Sam Bunting. He is a lovely lad but he’s not going to push Mark Scott for the number one position at this stage. I’ve told him he needs to go and play, so he will probably end up going back to Beaconsfield.

“It’s never an easy time in pre-season because you’ve got so many players that are trialling, and trying to prove their worth.

“You see the plus side in Josh Jackman, who has come in and been great, but then there are others that haven’t quite got to the levels we need.”

The squad for the new season could be finalised next weekend, when Slough travel to Fleet Town for a final pre-season friendly on Saturday (1pm).

However, the club are monitoring the situation with Guy Hollis, who won four end-of-season awards last year, after he picked up a foot injury last weekend.

“I don’t think we will be carrying too many and we will be pretty close at that stage to be honest,” said the Slough supremo.

“Obviously we’ve got one or two decisions to make at centre half and we’re not 100 per cent sure when we will see Guy. He had an opportunity to play 90 minutes but got quite a heavy kick on his foot, which forced him to come off after about 25.

“We’ve got to be a little bit wary of that because we don’t want to be down to the bare bones or anything like that at this stage of the season.

“I think coming towards next week we will be close to where we want to be.”
