JON UNDERWOOD has praised Slough Town for their “spot-on” attitude in the 6-0 FA Cup thrashing of Chipstead on Saturday.

The Rebels cruised through the first qualifying round tie – the first-ever FA Cup match played at Arbour Park – with two goals each from Charlie Moone and Lee Barney, plus strikes from Warren Harris and James Dobson.

Underwood is delighted with the performance, and he hopes displays like that will keep people coming back to the new stadium in support of Slough.

“You just never know with these games, how they are going to pan out, so I’m delighted with the score and pretty pleased with the performance as well," Underwood told the Observer.

“Getting the early goal helped and in spells we played fantastic football, particularly in the second half, where we had the rain and the pitch quickened up.

“We’ve talked about this a lot but it showed on Saturday. Once the rain came down we were moving the ball so much better with one and two-touch football.

“We scored good goals, all our attacking players got them, so it was a good day and I’m really pleased.”

He added: “These sorts of games are about attitude not being complacent, and working hard, and we did all of that.

“It wasn’t perfect, there were little bits and pieces that we were always going to moan about, but generally the attitude was spot on, there was nothing wrong with it.

“We wanted to try to put the game to bed early on and make it an easier afternoon, and we did that.

“The message was just to have the right attitude, work hard, and pass the ball because we got into a bit of a scrap last week with Hayes & Yeading. We wanted us to get on the ball more, use it better, and we did.”

Underwood continued: “We’ve got a good side here at the minute, playing with a lot of confidence, and we’re getting used to the surface.

“Chipstead weren’t and they were a little shell-shocked at times.

"We just carried on creating chances throughout the game, and if we're going to be picky we probably could've had double figures, but you don't take every chance.

"I'm delighted that the attacking players are getting amongst the goals, and we're also scoring from wide areas which is important, so there's plenty of people chipping in.

"It's important as well to put on that sort of performance here [Arbour Park] because we're trying to encourage people to come back, and that sort of display will do that.
