JON UNDERWOOD is delighted with the character that Slough Town have shown to remain in the title picture this week.

The Rebels recovered from falling two goals behind to draw 2-2 with Kings Langley at Arbour Park on Saturday.

Jerry Amoo and David Hutton gave the visitors a clear lead, before substitute Warren Harris pulled a goal back in the final minute of normal time.

And, despite having defender Mark Nisbet sent off, his second red card this campaign, Slough rescued a point when Charlie Moone found the back of the net in the 97th minute.

The Rebels’ joint-boss Underwood told the Observer: “It was quite a frustrating game to be honest. We were well on top and in the first half and in control of the game, but we didn’t get ourselves in front, which we needed to do. We weren’t clinical in the final third.

“It was the same picture in the second half, without getting that all important first goal.

“We’ve seen recently at Arbour Park that teams come and be defensive, waste time and break up the game. If we get in front it changes their game-plan a bit, but we were hit with two sucker punches out of nothing.

“From our perspective, it was two sucker punches because we were so in control, but I was delighted that we kept on going.

“When Mark was gone you might have thought our chance was as well, but we kept on going and managed to get a draw, a positive point in the end.

“I’m delighted with the character that we showed.”

Slough fell behind again in midweek when Richard Gregory was left unmarked at the back post and headed Stratford in front.

However, the Rebels once again showed a determination not to be beaten, with two goals in as many minutes after the break.

Harris brought them level on 74 minutes before Elijah Adebayo controlled a long ball and finished past Niall Cooper to secure all three points.

Underwood commented: “It was a very different game to Saturday, a typically tough midweek match, and Stratford can be difficult on their day.

“The first half was really close, but I was disappointed with our marking from a free-kick to put them in front. For us, that was really disappointing.

“We struggled to get a foothold in the game and we were quite critical at half-time. I can’t remember the last time we had to go in a say a few stern words because the boys have done so well so often this season.

“We questioned a few of the guys’ performances and challenged them to prove us wrong, and they were brilliant in the second half.

“It took a while to get the first goal but we deserved the win. We got the result we deserved.”

Slough turn their attention to the FA Trophy and a third qualifying round tie at home to Ryman Premier Division club Wingate and Finchley this Saturday (3pm).

The Rebels return to Southern Premier Division action on Tuesday, when Banbury United are the visitors to Arbour Park (7.45pm).
