SLOUGH Town moved into the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup semi-finals this season after a 3-0 win against MK Dons at Arbour Park on Tuesday.

Two goals from loanee Elijah Adebayo, on his final start before returning to Fulham, and one by substitute James Dobson saw the Rebels cruise past a young Dons side.

Slough joint-boss Neil Baker was delighted with the win and insists the Football League club could not complain if the home team scored six or seven goals.

“I thought in the second-half in particular we were excellent. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say it could have been six or seven. It really was men against boys,” he told the Observer.

“Obviously, they had a few that have got first-team experience but predominantly they were a young side and it definitely showed.

“It was a really good night for us. We didn’t pick up any injuries and kept a clean sheet in front of a big crowd, which was great.”

Baker added: “I don’t think fitness and things like that come into it too much these days. Our lads are fit. Yes, they don’t train full-time but they’re often doing things down the gym and keep themselves in good nick.

“Dons were a young side and I thought it showed. They gave the ball away at times when under pressure and tried to over-play at times as well, and we just showed our experience.”

Slough took the lead with an Adebayo header from a Lewis Putman left wing delivery in the 23rd minute.

Man-of-the-match Putman was unfortunate not to double the advantage when his shot was cleared off the line early in the second-half.

MK Dons keeper Charlie Burns was beaten for a second time on the hour as a Mark Nisbet half-volley from a Putman corner was turned in by Adebayo.

Seven minutes from the end, the Rebels added a third as top scorer Dobson arrived unmarked at the back post to turn in a Putman cross – his third assist in the tie. Dobson also rattled the bar late on.

The win means Slough will play Maidenhead United at York Road in the New Year for a place in the final this season.

“It’s great for the local public and hopefully they will all come and support, and it will be a great night.

“I am sure Alan Devonshire will have his mind on the league, and I’m sure they will be a number of changes, but that’s no different from us. We made six changes from Saturday.

“It shows the depth of our squad and I’m sure that will be similar when we come to the Maidenhead game.

“It should prove to be a cracking game between two local sides who are both in banging form this year.”

Slough regained the winning thread in the Southern Premier Division with a 3-2 victory over Kettering Town at Arbour Park on Saturday.

Charlie Moone was on the scoresheet with less than a minute played as he ran clear and fired into the bottom corner with Kettering appealing in vain for an offside flag.

Moone found the net again on 28 minutes as the Rebels kept the pressure on from a free-kick. After Nisbet had seen a volley blocked, the striker put the ball past keeper Dean Snedker at the second attempt.

Slough added a third goal in the 57th minute, another superb individual goal from Dobson to take his tally for the season to 16.

The wide midfielder beat his marker with a bit of trickery and sprinted clear before rounding Snedker and slotting in, making the finish look easy.

Kettering pulled a goal back with a minute remaining as Aaron O’Connor finished neatly into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Rene Howe reduced the deficit further in the third minute of time added on, but there was no time for Kettering to search for an equaliser.

“It shouldn’t have been 3-2, we were three up and comfortable,” said Baker. “We probably just got a sloppy in the last few minutes but it was a really dominant performance.

“Chris Flood coming in was a huge lift for us. He really helped Charlie and obviously we now have Gavin James coming back.”
