SLOUGH Town joint-manager Neil Baker wants his side to show their bouncebackability when the Rebels travel to St Ives Town this Saturday (3pm).

The Rebels began the New Year with a 2-1 defeat to Chesham United on Bank Holiday Monday, leaving them third in the Southern Premier Division table.

Baker admits they were not at the races at Arbour Park but he argues they deserved a draw with Chesham.

Slough have not suffered back-to-back league defeats this season and though Baker knows St Ives will be tough, he is confident they can regain the winning thread.

“Most people in the league will know that they pitch at St Ives is not great. You have to go and play a completely different way so it’s a tough game,” he told the Observer.

“St Ives were beaten on Monday but, to be fair, they have been on a fantastic run. They were eight matches unbeaten up until then so they’ve got themselves right out of the relegation mire and looking at mid-table and above.

“It will not be easy but we have to go there and try to get the three points. Having lost on Monday we have got to bounce back and, to be honest, it’s something we have done most of the season.

“When we have had a result that hasn’t gone quite our way we’ve tended to bounce back and hopefully we will do the same on Saturday.”

The match at St Ives is the first of four consecutive away days for Slough, and the first of six in a tough January on paper.

The Rebels will make the journey to Cinderford Town next Tuesday and Biggleswade Town on January 14.

After that Slough turn their attention to the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup and a semi-finals tie away at red-hot Maidenhead United on January 17.

The Rebels will not return to Arbour Park until January 21 when title rivals Chippenham Town are the visitors.

Baker commented: “You’ve always got targets and between ourselves we have got a points target. We wouldn’t talk about that in the open, only the management team know what it is. You have just got to try and win as many games as you can.

“We’re right in the mix and it was disappointing on Monday, but we will live to fight another day as they say.”
