SLOUGH TOWN joint-boss Neil Baker has ruled out any further summer signings and has backed the squad to compete this season.

The Rebels have already made five new signings, including keeper Jack Turner and left-back George Wells, who both impressed in the 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

But Baker has confirmed only the current trialists at the club are in contention for a deal before season gets under way in August.

“I would be very surprised is anyone outside of this group will join us,” he told the Observer. “We’re very happy with what we’ve got and I think we can be competitive with it.”

One trialist who has impressed is midfielder Paul Hodges after his late equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Wealdstone on Tuesday.

Baker said: “You look at Paul and he’s not the biggest in the world but he has come on and looked lively. He has made things happen a couple of times and had shots on goal.

“He was probably a bit fortuitous for the goal, the ball came off the back of his head, but he got himself in the box, and to be fair actually started the move himself anyway.

“It gives us a few things to think about. We obviously still need to see more of Paul, we’ve only seen him for 75 minutes, but he has done really well in that period. We will keep him with us and time will tell, but it has got to be right for both parties.

“We’ve got a very good squad of players at the moment so we have got bundles of options.”
