SLOUGH Town have extended their unbeaten run in the Southern Premier Division to five matches after a 2-0 win against Dorchester Town on Tuesday.

A goal from Manny Williams - his 11th of the season and first in seven matches - gave The Rebels a lead inside seven minutes at Arbour Park.

Matt Lench doubled the advantage with his 12th goal of the campaign in the final minute of the first half.

The home side wasted several chances to further extend their lead after the break but it was still a comfortable win in front of 436 supporters.

The victory means Slough have moved up to sixth position in the league table, three points outside the play-offs but with two matches in hand on all the sides above them.

VIDEO: Neil Baker reacts to the 2-0 win against Dorchester on Tuesday.

The Rebels joint-manager Neil Baker told the Observer: “I’m just delighted to get the three points after the last two games where we’ve dropped points at Chesham and here (Arbour Park) against Hereford to last minute goals.

“It was important that we won the game and even more important that we kept a clean sheet, and it gets us back in the running.

“It could have been more comfortable, we have had quite a few more chances and an absolute stone wall penalty not given, but it doesn’t really matter because we’ve won the game and that’s all we needed to do.

“Mentally it just gets in your head at times and Dorchester had a little spell probably 75 minutes into the game where they just got on top.

“It was the first time they had got on top on to be honest and they had a couple of shots that Jack Turner has ended up saving because if one goes in then they are right back in the game.

“We could have killed it off and should have before that, and we should have had a penalty which does kill the game off.

“You do worry a little bit and that is why we talked about going into the corners and seeing the game out. Whilst it’s not necessarily great for the fans to watch at times, we are talking about a few minutes and winning the game of football, so I’m delighted.”

With regards to the push for promotion, Baker continued: “It’s huge and a must-win really. We needed to get that win to get ourselves back in touch with everyone.

“We have got a lot of games in hand but we’ve gone back up to sixth and with predominately six games in hand on most sides and three in hand on Hereford, so we just need to get close.

“We need to get closer to the top teams and we know we’re capable of doing it. We’ve got a lot of tough away games to come and that will be the making of us really.”

Slough travel to Biggleswade Town on Saturday (3pm) before turning their attention to the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup and a quarter-final tie away at Bracknell Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).
