SLOUGH Town twice recovered from falling behind to draw 2-2 with Bishops Stortford at Woodside Park on Saturday.

The Southern Premier Division fixture was given the go-ahead after a 10am pitch inspection due to low temperatures and with snow in the forecast.

Both sides hit the woodwork in a goalless first half and Slough suffered a blow when in-form striker Chris Flood was forced off with injury and replaced by Perry Coles.

A goal from Alfie Mason put Bishops Stortford in front on 53 minutes, before Coles struck the post in his bid for an equaliser.

Ben Harris returned from injury to the Rebels side as a sub and the striker equalised with his fourth goal of the season after 76 minutes.

The home side regained the lead when Darren Foxley scored from outside the box with eight minutes left on the clock.

Slough were not behind for long however as Coles broke the offside trap and fired in via a post on 88 minutes to secure a point.

The Rebels joint-manager Neil Baker told the Observer: “It will probably turn out to be a good point.

“The conditions were very difficult and we turned up not expecting the game to be on. There was snow on the pitch but the blue lines were out so it was playable, but still difficult.

“The lads lost there footing in the snow, which got more heavy and deeper on the pitch, and by the end it was very difficult.

“It was a good game to watch for the neutral. There were a lot of chances for both sides because there were a lot of mistakes.

“We’re a little disappointed not to get all three points but delighted to get one. It was a game we could have won or lost, so a draw and a point is a great result.

“Anyone would take a point when you’re 2-1 behind with two minutes to play.

“It was tough and a good game to watch for the neutral, but not so as managers because of the amount of chances at both ends.

“Credit to Bishops Stortford because they’re a good side and never gave up.

“One point is better than nothing. You’re not going to win games all the time. We drew on Saturday and backed that up with a win on Tuesday, so that shows it was a good point last weekend.”

Slough travel to Basingstoke Town this Saturday (3pm) before a trip to promotion-rivals Weymouth next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Baker commented: “We’re in a position where there are five weeks left in the season and we want to have a go at it.

“We’ve kept with the same squad throughout the season with the exception of Perry Coles and Ben Harris. It’s not like we’ve made lots of changes.

“We’ve decided to add a bit more of a fresh impetus to the squad to add more competition and get more out of the players.”

Slough have signed Scott Davies from Chelmsford City and Matt Day on loan from Wealdstone.
