SLOUGH Town are out of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup this season after a 4-1 semi-finals defeat against MK Dons on Wednesday.

Despite a gruelling end to the season which has seen Slough play eight matches in the last 20 days, The Rebels fielded a strong side in respect of the county cup.

However, League One Dons proved too good at Arbour Park and stormed into a four-goal lead before the half-time interval thanks to a Brandon Thomas-Asante hat-trick plus a Giorgio Rasulo strike.

Slough pulled one back after the break through striker Perry Coles, his ninth goal since joining The Rebels back in February and sixth in as many games, to win the second 45-minute period.

Slough joint-manager Jon Underwood told the Observer: “It was a funny game really. We started well for 15 minutes, playing in their half of the pitch and creating a few chances, so we were really pleased.

“Then MK Dons scored and for 30 minutes they were very good and we struggled. They had more quality and looked more fresh and lively, which is understandable.

“We’ve had a tough run of games lately and that has told a little bit. We picked up a few knocks at Hitchin and that restricted us in what we could do in terms of rotation. We looked leggy and tired while MK Dons were clinical and punished us.

“We won the second half, which is what we asked the players to do at half-time, so it was not a disastrous evening. We got a bit of pride back.”

He added: “It was not a priority competition for us with what we’ve got going on. We put a good side out on paper but had tired legs. We did all we could to respect the competition but will now prepare for Saturday.”

Slough travel to Dorchester Town this Saturday (3pm) and then Royston Town next Tuesday (7.45pm), before the same side visit Arbour Park in the final fixture of the regular season on April 28.

Looking back on the 1-0 win away at Hitchin Town on Monday, when ex-Canarie Matthew Lench scored the only goal of the game, Underwood said: “I was really pleased because Hitchin is not an easy place to go.

“We produced a professional performance. We didn’t create a huge amount of chances but restricted Hitchin to little and got what we deserved in the end.

“It was not a classic game but a 1-0 away win at this time of the season is great from a managers point of view.”
