STEVE Bateman was delighted with Slough Town's response as they came from behind twice to beat Aylesbury in a thrilling finale at Holloways Park.

Slough twice recovered from a deficit to take all three points from Aylesbury, after Danny Burnell's late winner.

"We came to life in the last 25 minutes but we weren't overly aggressive up until that point," admitted the Rebels supremo.

"The pitch wasn't great but that's the same for both sides. Aylesbury are quite a robust side but our keper, Rob Bullivant made a rare mistake when he came to punch a ball at waist height, which lead to their first goal.

"Aylesbury stuck to their guns and were very hard working. But we switched to 'plan B', which we have got in our locker, contray to popular belief.

"There was nothing clever we did, we just put on another attacking player amd went to three up front.

"We put balls into the box., we rattled them and got ourselves back into the game. We got plenty out of our different plans." Slough quickly recovered from that early Bullivant mistake to score three goals of their own to secure the victory.

And Bateman added: "We scored three goals from our forwards and Chris Herron was outstanding when he came on and made a difference, which gives me something to think about.

"But it's a result that keeps us well in the picture." An error on his home debut from keeper Bullivant gave the visitors a deserved first-half lead through Ricky Miller, in a game which appeared to lack all the excitement and quality of Slough's previous league cup fixture.

However, the introduction of Simon Martin sparked Slough into life midway through the second half after his close-range tap in levelled the scores.

But, Glen Hawkins replied instantly for the Moles to put the visitors in front for a second time.

However, Rebels dug in again and Sean Sonner equalised just two minutes later after he took advantage of another goalkeeping howler, this time by Aylesbury's Steve Smith who flapped at a cross, leaving Sonner to head home in the 76th minute.

And Burnell grabbed the crucial winner in injury time after good pressure from Slough in the last 20 minutes had Aylesbury pinned in their half.

A right wing cross from Sonner looped to the far post for Burnell to poke home from close range and seal the points for Rebels..
