THERE are not many sports centres in Berkshire that can boast a former World champion, British Champion, local legend and the UK's first guided chaos black belt teacher all teaching under one roof.

But in a converted derelict building in Farnham Royal, the Unity Martial Arts Academy is brimming with some of the country's leading martial artists.

In 2008 brothers Michael and Martin James and ex-judo champion Steve Morrison left the dreary village halls and rented rooms they used to teach in to set up their own dojo at Farnham Park Playing Fields, known locally as the Old Fords Club.

Michael started with shotokan karate when he was a teenager before moving onto judo, wing chun, modern arnis, ken jitsu, tai chi and is now the only guided chaos black belt in the UK.

And brother Martin was hooked on Sombo & ju jitsu, training religiously to obtain a black belt in 2000.

Now teaching alongside Morrison, the trio decided a change of venue was necessary after deciding their former surroundings were uninspiring to their students.

And four years on, their fantasy has become a reality with the completion of an academy that has several full-time martial artists teaching, including pro cage fighter David Lee, ex-Brazilian ju jitsu world champion Ze Marcello and local taekwondo legend Stewart Armotrading.

Unity offers a range of arts including traditional ju jitsu, Russian sombo, guided chaos self-defence, Brazilian ju jitsu, kick-boxing, boxing, taekwondo, wrestling, combat circuit training, pilates, Boot camp training and personal training.

The club also offer classes for 'little tiger cubs' from the age of three up to five years old.

Anyone interested in joining the club should visit www.unitymaa.com or call Martin James on 07721410526.

They can also be found on Facebook by searching unity martial arts academy.
