Oh Brother
Slough band Brother are attracting a massive buzz at the moment, as their recent gig slots at the respected South By South West festival in Austin, Texas prove. Singer Lee spoke to The Guide as the band were due to jet off again, this time to Amsterdam for some international shows, before returning for an extensive UK tour, when the four-piece will call in for a sold-out gig at Play in Reading on Monday.
Lee said: "We played some shows at SXSW and did some shows over in New York, and it was really good, really great. They're really great people over there, they get it, they have a warm connection as an audience. Nice people, nice food!"
Reflecting on the description often foisted on the band, of being lad rock revivalists, Lee said: "We are influenced by a lot of 90s guitar bands, it is cool if people want to call us that! We want to be one of the biggest bands in the world! We aren't supposed to say that, but we are just ambitious and that is good!
Referring to their website, where the band describe themselves as 'four chancers', Lee clarified: "We're more like four well-rehearsed and hard-working chancers! I expected it to be hard work but it hits you like a ton of bricks! But we are happy with it."
The band, who only started gigging together about six months ago, are set to release their second single, Still Here, on Monday, April 25.
Lee said: "We were lucky to have quite a lot of press before we had even released anything, so people were fighting back at us because of our attitude. We are not bothered about what people think about us, so that's what the single title is about, it is like, we're still here!" The band are currently in talks with organisers from Reading Festival and Glastonbury, and hope to play the summer festivals, in addition to undertaking a busy touring schedule.
Lee told The Guide he and his bandmates were excited about playing what will be their first show in Reading: "The venue is sold out but it is only tiny. We spent a lot of time growing up going out in Reading, to the Purple Turtle and all those places. It will be good to see some familiar faces and some unfamiliar ones!"
Brother will play a sold-out show at Play, Reading on Monday with support from Stoke band All The Young. Brother will also play at Slough West Wing Arts Centre on May 8. For tickets call 01753 476651.
