COUNCILLORS from across the political spectrum in Slough have paid their respects after the death of hard-working Foxborough councillor Sonja Jenkins.

Cllr Jenkins, 71, died yesterday following a fall at her home.

She had been a Liberal Democrat councillor for Foxborough ward since being elected in 2004.

Cllr Robert Plimmer, fellow Liberal Democrat councillor for Foxborough, said: "Sonja was a much-loved and hard-working member of the local community in Langley.

"She was known by everyone in Foxborough and was regularly stopped in the street by people looking for help.

"As well as being a councillor she served with distinction on the Langley Carnival Committee for many years.

"She was a well-liked pillar of the local community and she will be sorely missed." Cllr Rob Anderson, leader of the council, said: "We are very sad to hear the news of Sonja's passing, especially at this time of year.

"Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

"We are all very sad to lose a hard-working councillor who has been part of the council for the past six years." The flag at the Town Hall is flying at half mast as a mark of respect and will continue to do so until the funeral date.
