A WRANGLE over changing the route of the Slough Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan parade has been settled just in time for this year’s event to go ahead.

Proposals had been lodged for the popular Sikh parade - attended by thousands of people - to set off from the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Slough, in Sheehy Way, as usual, but end at the The Falcon Sports and Community Centre, in Stoke Poges Lane.

The parade has always finished at the Ramgarhia Sikh Gurdwara Slough and members of the temple, in Woodlands Avenue, are believed to have not welcomed the plans.

The new route proposal was believed to have been put forward by members of the Sri Guru Singh Sabha temple. A petition against the proposed changes, containing 1,236 signatures, was handed to the council in January. However it was not taken into account because the council’s multi-agency safety advisory group had already refused permission for the new route.

After months of talks the two temples have now agreed to keep the route the same for this year, meaning the event can go ahead. The route for future parades, however, is still up in the air, a source told The Observer.

The parade is due to set off from the Sheehy Way temple at 10.30am on Sunday, April 27.
